At Buglawton Hall, students study a tailored curriculum suited to their individual needs. All students have access to the national curriculum through differentiated lessons and carefully chosen texts that stretch and challenge students at all levels.
For students who struggle with basic reading skills, Buglawton Hall uses Ruth Miskin phonics programmes. These include Project X and Fresh Start. The range of schemes on offer provides our students with a wide choice of material. There is something for all interests, ages and abilities, ensuring all students develop a firm foundation for good literacy skills.
Students have the opportunity to take part in drama and role-play exercises. This encourages them to communicate confidently and effectively in different situations.
There are a number of qualification pathways available to our key stage 4 students. Qualification entries are chosen in partnership with students, form tutors, key workers and families. Students are able to sit both English Literature and English Language GCSEs with AQA. They also have the option of gaining OCR Functional Skills English qualifications, or AQA's step to GCSE Entry Level qualifications.
Students are encouraged and supported to read daily. They are able to chose from a wide selection of books in the school library. Buglawton Hall aims to foster a love of reading in all students and enrich their understanding of the world through language and communication.
